Move to Dana Point
In December of 2003, after operating out of Newport Beach for some 10 + years, and only 1.5 years after being acquired by Bob Harrison, Curlew was invited to move to Dana Point where she would operate as part of the Dana Wharf Sportfishing fleet of boats, a spot the schooner Kelpie had held for some two decades, but who had moved to San Diego. The city was named after the headland of Dana Point, which was in turn named for Richard Henry Dana, author of “Two Years Before the Mast”, which included a description of the area. Dana described the locale, including neighboring San Juan Capistrano, as “the only romantic spot on the coast”. Dana Point is also a popular local destination for surfing and was home to a legendary surf break called Killer Dana.
Dana Point Harbor is located in South Orange County California, about half way between Los Angeles and San Diego
